April 2016
With a busy past couple of weeks celebrating different holidays (Valentine's , Dr. Seuss Week, Read-a-thin, St. Patrick's and Easter) we are back on track with our study on buildings. We have learned so many things thus far such as: the different jobs on a construction site, different tools people use on a construction site, construction site safety, creating and following blueprints etc. Students are loving all the activities and are highly engaged in participating and discussing what we have learned.

February 2016
During the week of February 15-19 one of our learning experiences included a class field trip to a the neighborhood next door, Perfect Place Moobaan. We payed special attention the different types of houses and buildings we saw, the shapes used to make up these structures and identified the materials within the houses / buildings (glass, wood, brick, fabric, plastic).
We also looked at different types of buildings in books, videos and different construction materials we could locate around the school. We continue to talk about buildings using descriptive words like tall, thin, wide, small, medium, large or big or giant, additionally, plastic, metal, smooth, bumpy, wood, fabric, hard, soft, etc.
During the week of February 22-26 we explored more about buildings, and looked specifically at houses and the exterior features of a house. We also payed close attention to the shapes we see in houses (triangle - roof, square - window, circle - door knob, rectangle - door). We continue to talk about the different types of materials that buildings are made of and point them out where ever and when ever we can - like sand, glass, wood, brick, etc. Next week we plan to take a field trip to a newly built house and look at some of the features we're learned about this week.
As always, we will continue to emphasize and practice the routines we have in our daily schedule and the expectations in the classroom (i.e. cleaning up and putting things back where they belong, playing properly within interest areas and interacting respectfully with materials and sharing with friends.)
